In partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Wakiso District Local Government, Living Goods is conducting a week-long capacity-building training for Village Health Team (VHT) supervisors.
This landmark training, the first of its kind for supervisors in Wakiso District, aims to enhance their skills in using digital health platforms, including the electronic Community Health Information System (eCHIS), the Supervisor Application, and the District Health Information System (DHIS2).
These systems are vital tools for collecting, reviewing, and analyzing community-level health data submitted by VHTs. The training targets supervisors, health information assistants, health facility in-charges, and district health educators from 61 health facilities across the district.
By strengthening their technical competencies, the training empowers supervisors to effectively mentor and support VHTs, ultimately improving community health service delivery, reporting, and supervision.

A Strategic Milestone for Wakiso
Dr. Emmanuel Mukisa, the District Health Officer, underscored the significance of this initiative:
“This is the first time supervisors are being trained on the app, and it’s a game-changer. Many could not previously adequately support VHTs. Regular trainings—either quarterly or semi-annually are essential. I appreciate Living Goods for its continued support through mentorship, coordination meetings, and WhatsApp support groups that are strengthening digital health supervision.”
The training covers key modules including Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM), maternal and child health, immunization, nutrition, stock management, and supervision. These areas are central to improving data quality, service accountability, and overall health outcomes in communities.
Dr. David Ssekaboga, Assistant District Health Officer for Environmental Health, praised the supervisors for their efforts in boosting Wakiso’s eCHIS reporting rate:
“We appreciate your commitment. Your support has increased our reporting rate from 45% to 62.5%. But there’s always room for improvement; the race for quality has no finish line. This training is part of our strategy to achieve 100% reporting.”

Focus on Data Validation and Quality
Frank Kakande, the District Biostatistician, emphasized the critical role of data validation in health planning and decision-making:
“One of the key gaps we’ve identified is lack of data validation. Unverified data can be misleading, and this training places a strong emphasis on equipping you with the skills to address that.”
Strengthening the Role of Supervisors
VHT supervisors play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of community health data. Through continuous mentorship, coordination, and performance tracking, they help frontline health workers deliver quality care backed by reliable data.
Currently, Living Goods supports 1,006 VHTs in Wakiso District through digital empowerment, regular supervision, and performance-based incentives. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the quality and effectiveness of community health services across the country.
John Mwebaze, Community Health Manager at Living Goods and lead training coordinator, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication:
“This training reinforces our commitment to building the capacity of supervisors in digital tools, improving supervision, and driving data-driven decision-making.”
