Prevention

Living Goods’ primary health objective is to reduce morbidity and mortality for young children. Tragically, millions of children needlessly die every year for a lack of access to cheap and effective health products. The Living Goods product mix is anchored by affordable prevention products such as long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets, clean water products, fortified foods, hygiene products to prevent diarrhea, and a range of maternal health products to ensure safe delivery and healthy family planning.

Featured Prevention Product:  Fortified Foods

Two billion people around the world are deficient in important micronutrients like vitamin A, iodine, iron, zinc and folate. Providing access to micronutrients, especially in the first two years of life, helps prevent stunting, improves cognitive development and defends against deadly diseases. Fortifying staple foods that people already eat such as flour, salt, and oil with vitamins and minerals is one of the most effective ways to address micronutrient deficiencies. Living Goods agents sell a range of vitamin and mineral fortified foods including: fortified maize flour, fortified millet, iodized salt, vitamin-A enriched cooking oil, fortified sugar, and vitamin enriched margarine. Fortified foods make up approximately 25% of our total sales.
