At Living Goods, we believe that strong community health systems are the foundation for achieving universal access to quality care. Last week, we were proud to support two important milestones that are helping to shape the future of community health in Burkina Faso.
Building a Stronger Foundation with Data

On August 26 in Ouagadougou, we joined a technical coordination meeting led by the Directorate of Community Health (DSC). The focus was on rolling out a georeferenced master list of Community-Based Health Workers (ASBCs), a powerful tool to:
- Improve the distribution of ASBCs across the country,
- Provide dynamic maps of their coverage areas, and
- Strengthen planning and monitoring of community interventions.
A pilot phase will soon be launched to test the tool’s reliability before scaling nationally.
Bringing Community Health Leaders Together

Just a few days later, on August 29 in Ziniaré, the first District Health Council (CSD) of 2025 was held with our support.
Presided over by the High Commissioner of Oubritenga, the meeting brought together all CSD structures, including Presidents of Special Delegations (PDS), members of Health Management Committees (COGES), head nurses (ICP), community-based organizations (CBOs), traditional and religious leaders, private health facility representatives, the Regional Health Directorate (DRS), and the district health team.
Living Goods shared how we are contributing to stronger community health systems through our DESC model:
- Digitization – equipping 474 ASBCs with smartphones for real-time data collection,
- Equipment – supplying essential medicines and training for ASBCs and health staff,
- Supervision – deploying 12 supervisors for hands-on support,
- Compensation – providing over 108 million CFA francs annually to sustain ASBC motivation and performance.
Looking Ahead
Both milestones made possible with support from the Global Fund through the BIRCH/IS project and technical partnership with Africa Frontline First (AFF) mark decisive steps toward a stronger, better-coordinated, and more impactful community health system in Burkina Faso.
At Living Goods, we are committed to working hand in hand with governments and partners to ensure every family has access to the care they need, when they need it.
