Since July 2024, a significant transformation has been unfolding in the Manga Health District in Burkina Faso. Living Goods, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, has initiated monthly performance reviews of Community Health Workers (CHWs) to contribute to the qualitative impact on community healthcare.
These reviews, which bring together Health Post Nurses, CHWs, and Living Goods Supervisors at the Health and Social Promotion Centers (CSPS), have proven essential for monitoring CHW performance and enhancing their skills. They also serve as an opportunity to validate collected data and ensure proper management of medical supplies.
The results are evident. There has been an improvement in the quality of care for the three most common childhood illnesses: malaria, pneumonia, and diarrhea. Additionally, there is more regular screening for malnutrition and monitoring of pregnant women and newborns. CHWs have improved their skills, and medication stockouts have been reduced.
The testimonies of beneficiaries also confirm a notable increase in family satisfaction since the beginning of the program. These advances demonstrate the effectiveness of performance reviews and highlight their potential to serve as a model in other districts.
It is worth noting that since the program’s launch, Living Goods has provided close coaching to CHWs, further strengthening their crucial role in improving community health services. In total, 51 Health and Social Promotion Centers (CSPS) in the Manga Health District are actively participating in this exercise. These reviews take place during the last week of each month.
